Rapid Skilling

The Digital Lift Rapid Skilling program is designed to help individuals to break into the tech sector by learning in-demand tech skills. Each course will be 6-12 weeks long.

Digital Marketing Course

BC Tech has partnered with Jelly Academy, and will be delivering a free 6-week Digital Marketing Masterclass and are pleased to be supporting an Indigenous local company. The participants of this cohort will be a focused group of people who self-identify as part of these groups: Indigenous Peoples, women, rural youth, transitioning workers and 2SLGBTQ+ community. Through this free course, we will provide both valuable career skills but also a network within the tech space for this community.

Eligibility

• You must be between the ages of 18-30.
• You must be a Resident of British Columbia.
• You must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a protected person entitled to work in Canada.
  • Please note: Temporary foreign workers, international students, working holiday visas, or other temporary residents are unfortunately NOT eligible to participate
• Preference will be given to individuals who identify as part of these groups: Indigenous Peoples, women, rural youth, transitioning workers and 2SLGBTQ+ community.

AWS re/Start Program

AWS re/Start can jump-start your career working in cloud computing!

In partnership with the YES (Youth Employment Services), BC Tech is excited to provide participants with free access to the AWS re/Start program. Developed by Amazon Web Services (AWS), the AWS re/Start program is a 15-week, skills development and training program that prepares participants for careers in the cloud and connects them to potential employers

A technology background is not required and program participants will conclude the program by writing the exam for AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Certification.

Eligibility

• You must be a Resident of British Columbia.
• Must be available to attend 15 weeks of 9am-5pm online classes Monday-Friday
• You must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a protected person entitled to work in Canada.
  • Please note: Temporary foreign workers, international students, working holiday visas, or other temporary residents are unfortunately NOT eligible to participate
• Preference will be given to individuals who identify as part of these groups: Indigenous Peoples, women, rural youth and workers transitioning from other industries.

Web Development Bootcamp for Rural Youth

The Web Development Bootcamp is an intensive, project-based learning experience, designed to help rural youth pursue career opportunities in web development.

The bootcamp is a virtual, full time and intensive 12 week course designed to provide students the skills needed to be a professional web developer. During the course, attendees will gain hands-on experience in full-stack development, including building and deploying multi-page web applications, collaborating with other developers, and working with databases. This knowledge is then applied to complete a range of real-world client projects, in multiple sprints, as well as a final portfolio piece that puts those new skills to the test.

By the end of the online program, graduates will have the skills, experience, and portfolio needed to dive into a career in web development.

The course tuition of $15,000 is subsidized, as long as you meet the eligibility requirements below and have been accepted into the program.

Eligibility

• You must be unemployed or underemployed.
  • Underemployed is categorized as working less than 20 hours a week. This can be at a casual, seasonal, or part-time job.
  • If you are self-employed, you must be working part-time or casual hours (less than 20 hours a week)

C.O.D.E. Initiative

In partnership with the C.O.D.E. Initiative, BC Tech is excited to provide funding for neurodivergent students to explore the world of technology and coding.

The C.O.D.E. Initiative is a registered non-profit organization with a mission to provide accessible and inclusive coding and STEM opportunities to neurodiverse individuals.

Traditional education systems often cannot provide the personalized support that neurodiverse individuals require, and are tailored only to the success of neurotypical individuals.  Additionally, the cost of learning services for neurodiverse learners is high, while availability is low, putting these valuable services out-of-reach for many who could benefit from them.

C.O.D.E. offers neurodiverse students a learning structure of combined 1-on-1 tutoring & group-work, promoting dynamic play and social resilience that will help them learn and grow professionally and interpersonally.   The program is mutually beneficial to the students and the tech sector as a whole.  Part of C.O.D.E.’s mission is to increase diversity in the tech sector through the inclusion and celebration of neurodiverse voices.

Specialized curriculum design combined with a strong network of teachers result in a learning environment tailored to the needs and strengths of differently-abled youth.

The BC Reskilling program is designed to help unemployed, underemployed and transitioning workers by providing rapid reskilling for careers in the technology industry. It will provide the entry level knowledge required for high demand roles in the technology sector.

Please only submit one application for either Web Development or User Design Experience. Only the first application submitted will be considered.

In order to participate in the Web Development or User Experience courses you must meet the following criteria:

Eligibility Criteria:

1. You must 18 years of age or older
2. You must be a Resident of British Columbia
3. You must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a protected person entitled to work in Canada.
   • Please note: Temporary foreign workers, international students, working holiday visas, or other temporary residents are unfortunately NOT eligible to participate
4. You must be unemployed or underemployed.
   • Underemployed is categorized as working less than 30 hours a week. This can be at a casual, seasonal, or part-time job.
   • If you are self-employed, you must be working part-time or casual hours (less than 30 hours a week)
5. If you are receiving Employment Insurance (EI) or Income Assistance (IA), or have recently received CERB (Canadian Emergency Response Benefit)  that has transitioned into EI, there is an additional form you must submit to the Federal Government in order to enrol in either program.
6. You cannot be enrolled in another federally or provincially funded training program concurrently.
