This week’s Spotlight on Tech features Left, a multinational media and technology company with holdings in mobile and Internet-based businesses. Previously known as Left of the Dot Media, the company’s early success came from realizing the value of great domain names.

Describe your company.

We are dreamers, but also doers. We are game changers and world shakers. We are a little silly, but we care deeply. We are Lefties and we are doing things right.

What is your primary product and service?

Our plan is to change the world by bringing connectivity to the unconnected and we believe that we can accomplish it without wasting billions in new infrastructure, thanks to our WAVE mesh platform and our YO! offline messaging, discovery, and sharing application.

Left is a Canadian-made multinational technology company, based out of Maple Ridge. We have a growing team of 15 tech professionals locally in Maple Ridge – where parking is free and families can afford housing – and 65 in Bangladesh.

Describe the culture at your company.

Left’s founders, Chris Jensen and John Lyotier, had a dream to create a company built on core values and an anything-is-possible attitude that can make this planet a better place. Yes, we had some bumps and bruises along the way, but now, thanks to our work hard and play hard attitude, we can say this vision has evolved into reality.

Left’s vibrant culture has a strategic foundation, but exists because of our awesome team that live and breathe our core values every single day. Most of the cool things we do are driven by our ‘Lefties’ themselves, which is why the #LeftyLife, like technology, is always evolving. Our workplace, recognized as the “Best in BC” by Small Business BC and two-time winner of the BC Tech Community Engagement Award, is a playground for our team to work on what they’re passionate about with a team they treat like family. Our dedicated team champions our cultural initiatives to help promote a healthy, inspiring, ever-evolving, and ridiculously passionate workplace.
