This week’s Spotlight on Tech focuses on Clevest, a team of experts of mobile workforce automation and smart grid operations solutions for utilities. They have a long and successful track record of creating, deploying and supporting solutions around the world.
Describe your company and primary product(s) and/or service(s).
Clevest provides workforce automation software that connects mobile workers to office operations. Built for energy utilities, our green tech solutions optimize any field activity, improving outage response times, worker productivity and safety, and helping utilities reduce their carbon footprint. With over 220 customers worldwide, Clevest’s solutions have been used to deploy over 30 million smart meters and service over 100 million energy consumers. Clevest integrates with 250 enterprise systems, and offers configurable solutions that can be deployed on-premise or in the cloud. Our growth has been recognized by Deloitte Fast 50 and PROFIT500, and our products have won awards from Microsoft and Esri.
How many employees currently work at your company?
We have 120 amazing people, primarily in our Richmond, BC headquarters. We also have offices in Texas and the Czech Republic, and remote staff throughout North America.
Where are you located?
Located in the Richmond high tech business park with other BC Tech leaders, Clevest’s head office is bright and open with 360°of windows. We have fitness facilities, showers, secure bike storage, and EV car chargers. There’s restaurants, walking trails, golf courses and a driving range, as well as two licensed daycares. We have plenty of parking and are easily accessible by transit, including a complimentary shuttle to the Canada Line Skytrain station.
Describe the culture at your company.
Clevest’s culture is collaborative and diverse. We speak 28 languages – helping us communicate with customers around the world, promote coaching and mentorship, and support underrepresented groups including women in technology. What does your leadership team (and company as a whole) do to support/grow that culture?
Clevest’s leadership cultivates a coaching/mentorship system that promotes innovation and collaboration. Our co-op students work alongside our experienced engineers, our sales team is paired up so a junior person gains from the experience of a seasoned veteran, and our executives personally mentor our upcoming generation of leaders. And our regular “all hands” meetings celebrate achievements gained from collaborating with each other.

Describe your most recent achievement/milestone as a company.
Clevest recently released version 6.0 of our next-generation workforce management product, providing significant mobile GIS benefits to our customers. This was a major milestone that everyone in the company contributed to. We celebrated together as a team during our Friday beers with toasts, recognitions and – of course – an enormous cake!

Tell us an interesting fact about your company.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey’s destruction and leading up to Hurricane Irma, Clevest helped a customer deploy our new Automated Worker Location app directly onto their workers’ own smartphone or tablet – going from idea to execution in just a few days.
Adding new technology so close to a major event could have been overwhelming for the customer, but the mobile app is instantly installed and used with no learning curve. Hundreds of workers from six neighboring states were quickly set up with the app, and were then safely sent into the field to aid restorations. Their location was monitored by storm response staff in real time, helping get them to the areas with the greatest need.
Although more than 80% of our customer’s territory was damaged by the hurricane, they achieved full power restoration in a remarkable 72 hours – well below industry averages.
