What is OpportunitiesBC?
The aim of OpportunitiesBC is to attract more foreign investment into British Columbia. It is an online searchable database where B.C. companies and Economic Development Officers can list possible business opportunities in their communities and connect with foreign investors and potential immigrants interested in doing business in the province.
As an informational tool, the database has three functions:
1. To provide updated listings of possible opportunities across the province
2. To serve as a portal for foreign visitors to explore opportunities in B.C. communities
3. To connect opportunity representatives with potential foreign investors
OpportunitiesBC is a partnership between the BC Government’s Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Development (JTST), and the Economic Development Association of BC (EDABC).
What are the advantages of listing with OpportunitiesBC?
OpportunitiesBC is featured on British Columbia’s official international marketing website at www.opportunitiesbc.ca. The site is linked to B.C.’s foreign language sites in China, Japan and Korea as well as localized English languages sites for India, Europe and the USA. It is also used by B.C.’s international Trade and Investment Representative Offices when fielding inquiries in their markets about investment opportunities in the province.
What type of information is listed on OpportunitiesBC?
An opportunity profile lists project/company features, contact and location information with the option of adding text, photos, documentation and links to learn more about the opportunity. Each opportunity profile is also linked to a Community Profile to give prospective investors more information on the region where the business is located.
OpportunitiesBC has a pdf generator function so that listings can be easily collected and printed as a booklet. Interested parties can contact local Economic Development Officers to request additional information on a listing.
How do I list an opportunity on OpportunitiesBC?
To list and edit an opportunity, B.C. businesses must obtain a BCeID, a secure electronic access to government services. This will provide them with access to the OpportunitiesBC submission form. Once the form is completed and submitted, an Economic Development Officer will publish the opportunity as soon as possible.
Once the opportunity is published, it is featured live on the site and viewable by potential investors. Opportunities can also be marked as “private” in which case only EDOs, ministry staff and contractors may view it.
