Meet the Company of the Year – Startup 2021 TIA Finalists

Every BC unicorn and every BC anchor company began as a startup. Startups are critical to the sustainability of BC’s tech ecosystem. This award acknowledges an early-stage technology company that has brought something novel and impactful to the market, that is generating revenue, attracting team members, and creating significant buzz in BC’s tech ecosystem.  Let’s get to know our #2021TIAs finalists!

The Company of the Year – Startup award is presented in partnership with Microsoft.

ehsAI

ehsAI is a next wave compliance technology company that uses artificial intelligence and deep learning to help organizations greatly reduce the costs and risks of permitting and compliance.  The company’s AI-driven automation increases efficiency, accuracy, consistency, and compliance oversight, allowing their clients to better understand their obligations and how to meet them.

Organizations worldwide are obligated to comply with specific, strict environmental regulations in every location they operate in.  By leveraging artificial intelligence and machine learning, ehsAI is able to automate the transformation of regulatory documents such as permits, standards, regulations, policies, and guidance documents into detailed, mapped requirements.

Ideon Technologies

Ideon Technologies is a pioneer in cosmic-ray muon tomography.  The company has developed a discovery platform that integrates proprietary detectors, imaging systems, inversion technologies, and artificial intelligence to provide x-ray-like visibility up to one kilometer beneath the Earth’s surface.  By detecting subsurface muons and transforming the data into reliable geophysical surveys and 3D density maps, Ideon Technologies helps geologists identify deposits with precision and confidence.

The significance of this technology is that it allows geologists to drill less and discover more, reducing cost and risk, saving time, and minimizing environmental impact.  This technology could see the oil and gas industry cause less disruptions and damage to the Earth and environment through more precise drilling and extraction.  With implications in national security and critical infrastructure, this BC startup is truly making an impact.

Live It Earth

Live It Earth is an online education platform that brings the natural world to life for kids with innovative programs that pair real-world learning with interactive technology.  Designed for home education and in the classroom, Live It Earth inspires kids to care for the world around them and empowers them to act on their newfound passion for our planet.  The company offers a full roster of programs throughout the school year that are cross-curricular, inquiry-based and showcase a different topic each month.

Live It Earth understands that all kids can love learning, but it requires educational programs that can keep them engaged.  That’s why Live It Earth focuses on making learning fun by delivering programs that are designed to spark conversations and inspire deeper learning – away from screens.  At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, when schools were closing and children were being sent home, Live It Earth took a gamble and accelerated their output to supplement the loss of classroom time experienced by many young students.  It was a gamble that paid off and saw the company become an “overnight” success.
