JUNE 6, 2017 – Discovery Parks has recently appointed serial entrepreneur Paul Geyer to CEO with a mandate to spearhead Nimbus Synergies Inc., an innovative investment program that will deliver a big boost to BC’s health tech sector.

Announced by Discovery Parks’ Chair of the Board, Morgan Sturdy, “After nearly 40 years of success in the property development business for the tech sector in greater Vancouver, the Board of Directors has decided on a major pivot and will now be investing our capital in early stage companies in the Health Tech Sector. We are honored to have Paul Geyer, with his vast amount of knowledge and success in the Health Tech industry, to lead us in this new direction.”

Says BC Tech’s CEO, Bill Tam, “Paul has been a key contributor to the BC Tech community for many years, having served on the board of LifeSciences BC, Social Venture Partners, Science World and the BC Tech Association. Geyer joins Discovery Parks after a thriving 25 year career as an investor and serial entrepreneur. He’s built several successful companies, including Mitroflow International Inc., Neovasc Inc. and LightIntegra Technology Inc. that currently employ more than 500 people in BC. Paul is well known for his work supporting and mentoring entrepreneurs and future leaders of the tech industry. His passion for giving back is seen in the many board roles he holds, including: Executive Chairman, LightIntegra Technology Inc.; Chairman of the Board, Neovasc Inc.; G7 Fellow, Creative Destruction Labs – CDL West; Board of Directors, Entrepreneurship at UBC; Board of Directors, BCTECH; Advisory Council Member, UBC Engineering, Applied Science; and Industry Advisory Council, UBC Electrical Engineering department. In 2010 Paul was awarded the British Columbia Angel Investor of the year, and in 2011 he received the BC Life Sciences Leadership Award. He holds a B.A.Sc, Electrical Engineering from The University of British Columbia (1983 – 1988) and Certified Director, Certified Director Program, UCLA Anderson School of Management (2006), Canadian Securities Course (1988).

ABOUT THE NIMBUS SYNERGIES INVESTMENT PROGRAM

Nimbus is one of the most exciting additions to BC’s tech industry and the newest member of the Discovery Parks’ group of companies. This new technology investment program is unlike anything seen in BC to date. Nimbus will invest Discovery Parks’ assets, and provide a significant boost to BC’s fertile yet underserved Health Tech sector, focusing on the intersection between life sciences and technology. Each year, three to five companies will be selected to participate. Nimbus will bring these companies together to share resources, industry specific knowledge, and relationships — to accelerate their growth and commercialization. To seed this new investment program, Discovery Parks will be committing $20 million dollars.
