Tell me about your company. When were you founded? What do you do? And where are you located?
GeoComply was founded in 2011. We are a geolocation and fraud-detection company, helping our clients better understand who they’re transacting with online, with the vision to create a safer online environment. We are headquartered out of Vancouver, Canada, but we’re a global business with large offices in Warsaw, and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, and satellite offices across the US, Canada, and the UK.
What is the big problem that your company is tackling?
We’re seeing fraud proliferate across so many different industries and markets. It’s a consequence of people moving online. The number of tools that are available to fraudsters and cyber criminals to alter or manipulate their identity online is increasing in availability and they are extremely cheap. Criminals and fraudsters know this, so we’re really helping our clients to get in front of this type of activity in multiple different sectors. We operate in the gaming space, financial services, media entertainment, and child protection.
What are you most proud of in terms of company Milestones?
Quite recently we were recognized as being one of the Fast Company’s top ten, most innovative companies. That definitely emulates who we are as a company. We’re extremely innovative and agile so it’s wonderful to get that recognition. We were also extremely proud to have secured institutional investment over the years from Blackstone, Atairos, Norwest and Arctos. That’s exciting for us at GeoComply because it provides that recognition and validation that we’re on the right track, and that we are solving problems that people believe in.
How would you describe your company culture?
I would say, as a hyper-growth company, we are very dynamic. We operate very nimbly and we’re very innovative. We’re constantly thinking about new challenges, new ways to approach those challenges and always asking are we on the right track with this? We go through many iterations, which is necessary as a company in our stage of growth. The culture at GeoComply is very collaborative. We have lots of different cultures across our global teams, and we have teams that include people from all our different regions so it’s definitely a very culturally diverse company – which is wonderful because you hear new perspectives on challenges constantly.
What are three words you would use to describe your company culture?
Innovative. Dynamic. Fun.
I say fun because we just have a great team at GeoComply. Operating in a remote world, it’s so wonderful when we come together with people that we often see on a Zoom screen because we are reminded of why we’re all working together at this company. Everyone has a lot of fun with it. We have diverse teams, they have lots of new perspectives all the time, and while the issues that we’re trying to solve can be quite big, and we’re often talking about bad elements and bad actors. We’re problem solvers ultimately. We’re looking at these things in a more positive way – how we can solve the issue rather than getting bogged down or stifling our own progress. I think it’s fun because, while there are problems, we’re here to solve them. Everyone that works at the company is working towards the same common goals, and that makes the work fun, dynamic and innovative.
What is it like to work for your company, and why is it a great place to work?
What I love about working at GeoComply is the emphasis that we have on learning and development. A necessary component of our growth is how we are constantly educating and self-educating, developing ourselves to solve these new problems and these new challenges. There’s a significant emphasis on planning and personal development. You can invest in
courses and learning opportunities to advance your career goals, which is a really wonderful benefit that we have at GeoComply, and it has enabled me and I know lots of other team members to really progress in their careers very quickly.
