03 Mar 2017 Tech companies + Canadian expats + hockey = the perfect opportunity to meet amazing talent
The BC Tech Association was thrilled to partner once again with Communitech and Canadian tech companies such as Hootsuite and Thalmic Labs for another successful Go North Canada initiative. The goal was to spread the word about Canada’s booming tech scene to Canadian tech expats (as well as a few foreign tech workers interested in Canada) down in the Silicon Valley.
On Feb 28, 100 tech professionals joined us in San Jose’s SAP Arena for an evening of networking, food, beverages, and many interesting conversations about the tech sector and its career opportunities in Ontario and BC. Attending companies got a chance to chat one-on-one with experienced professionals currently working for some of the world’s most renowned tech companies, such as Netflix and Google, and got to pitch their culture and open jobs to the crowd. Erin Rogers, Hootsuite’s senior tech recruiter, remarked how impressed she was with the caliber of talent she connected with, and is already making arrangements to continue a few conversations.
After a very fruitful evening of networking, both companies and tech professionals joined forces to cheer for the Toronto Maple Leafs as they faced the San Jose Sharks. Granted, the Leafs didn’t quite make it… but we all had an absolute blast regardless, and left the event with many wins – and great new connections – in our pockets.
If you’d like to join us for future Go North initiatives to connect with top-notch Canadian tech expats and help us tell the amazing BC tech story to the world, learn more about it and how to get involved here or email clouzada@wearebctech.com.
Let’s work together to bring our best talent back home!
