12 Sep 2017 Evo Car Share partners with Vancouver Startup Week
Vancouver, BC – August 22, 2017: Calling all hackers, business developers and designers! The Vancouver Startup Week Hackathon is back this year with the theme New Mobility, hosted with Evo as the title sponsor. From September 22nd – 24th, over 200 participants will be brought together at the BCIT Tech Hub to innovate and build new mobility solutions.
Evo has chosen to be title sponsor of this year’s Vancouver Startup Week Hackathon to drive thought leadership around new mobility and the future of transportation, and support up-and-coming entrepreneurs, developers and designers with a challenge to uncover the next great new mobility opportunity for British Columbians. New Mobility is defined as a basket of interconnected and complementary services such as car sharing, bike sharing, ride hailing and transit that will replace personal car ownership for even more individuals and families.
Vancouver is in the midst of a transportation shift that’s revolutionizing the way we get around our city. We’re witnessing the convergence of high housing costs, dense communities, cities aiming to be the “Greenest”, the sharing economy and advances in vehicle technology. All together, these factors will result in alternative transportation modes and inspire new business models. In the midst of such major changes, British Columbians’ desire for more affordable, convenient and sustainable transportation options is pushing “New Mobility” forward in which a personally owned gas-powered vehicle is no longer king.
Vancouver Startup Week is excited to see what creative and innovative solutions will be built during the Hackathon’s action-packed weekend. John Rugamas, organizer of the Hackathon, says, ”It’s not everyday you get to participate in an event where the innovation could impact the lives of people in our province. Partnering with Evo for this hackathon gives people in the community a chance to create their own idea of ”New Mobilty” and that is the kind of innovation Vancouver Startup Week and the tech community is all about.” Attendees will not only have the opportunity to bring their business ideas to life but also the chance to collaborate with Vancouver’s brightest minds, gain advice from industry experts and network with top local companies.
For the third year in a row Vancouver company, Two Tall Totems, is sponsoring the Vancouver Startup Week Hackathon in an effort to support the tech community. Additionally, growing startup Procurify has come on as an official sponsor and BCIT will be the official education sponsor of the event. The Vancouver Startup Week Hackathon is one of the first marquee events to utilize the recently completed BCIT Tech Hub at the school’s downtown Vancouver location. First prize for the Hackathon is set to be valued at $20,000, with many other exciting prizes to be announced.
