25 Feb 2022 Advancing BC’s Manufacturing Sector
Today, BC Tech in partnership with the City of Surrey, City of Richmond and Township of Langley are pleased to launch A New Economic Narrative: Advancing BC’s Manufacturing Sector.
Over the past year, we have embarked on a multifaceted advanced manufacturing project with the goal of increasing the resilience and competitiveness of BC’s manufacturing sector. As Surrey, Richmond and Langley represent more than 70 percent of all manufacturing activity in BC, our Advanced Manufacturing project has the opportunity to impact thousands of manufacturers and the future of BC’s economy.
“The digital economy is here to stay, and we want to empower all BC companies to scale by adopting technology.” Shared BC Tech CEO Jill Tipping, “This partnership has enabled us to bring made-in-BC technology solutions to manufacturers to help ensure their businesses continue to grow and thrive.”
Through the project, existing industrial capabilities have been identified that could be retooled to support future emergency production needs and help companies diversify their businesses by focusing on emerging opportunities in new sectors. Launched today, the De-Risking Emerging Market Opportunities Toolkit and Digital Resource will help BC’s manufacturers assess market opportunities, adopt technology solutions and accelerate their growth.
Richard Sawchuk, Ministry of Jobs, Economic Recovery & Innovation shared these comments, “The commonality is certainly the need to enhance productivity and competitiveness. And with technology rapidly changing, manufacturers must future-proof their industry 4.0. transformation plans or risk falling behind their competitors.”
Featured in the announcement, BC Tech members Fobi, This.Fish and Advanced Intelligent Systems, shared their insights on the opportunities for technology innovation and efficiencies throughout the supply chain. Local technology solutions offer tremendous opportunities for manufacturers and other technology-enabled industries to adapt and thrive in a 21st century economy. As the great Wayne Gretzky famously said, “I skate to where the puck is going, not where it has been.“
