26 Nov 2025 BC’s Technology Sector is Seizing the Economic Opportunity of the Climate Challenge
Vancouver, B.C. — From clean energy and advanced materials to AI-driven optimization and digital innovation across every sector, BC is well positioned to capture the economic opportunity of the low-carbon transition.
“The release of the Independent Review on CleanBC is a timely reminder that climate change isn’t just an environmental imperative, it is also a global economic opportunity for BC to seize.” said Jill Tipping, President & CEO of the BC Tech Association.
As governments and industries worldwide seek partners who can deliver measurable climate impact, British Columbia’s technology industry is emerging as a global leader in creating the solutions that will power a cleaner, more resilient economy. “BC Tech members are addressing some of the world’s toughest challenges—from reducing industrial emissions to enabling smarter energy systems—proving that innovation and sustainability go hand-in-hand with economic growth” said Tipping.
This strength was showcased at last month’s annual Technology Impact Awards where the award for Climate Leadership went to SenseNet, who are redefining wildfire risk management with advanced sensing and AI-driven early detection—technology that is rapidly becoming essential as climate impacts intensify. The category’s other finalists further demonstrate the province’s depth of innovation: Corvus Energy, a global leader in battery energy storage for maritime decarbonization; Daanaa, whose power-transfer semiconductors increase efficiency and enable next-generation clean-energy systems; and pH7 Technologies, pioneering low-emission, closed-loop methods for recovering critical metals needed for the energy transition.
“As British Columbia navigates a rapidly shifting global landscape, the Rising to the Moment report provides a timely and constructive assessment of where we stand and what comes next. CleanBC has delivered meaningful progress, but the world in late 2025 is very different from when this journey began. British Columbians are understandably anxious about affordability and economic stability, even as they continue to care deeply about protecting our environment and responding to climate change. The good news is we do not need to choose between climate action and economic opportunity – BC’s tech sector is proof that innovation can drive both sustainability and prosperity. The BC Tech Association welcomes this report and its call for renewed focus, collaboration, and smart investment—because with the right approach, we can strengthen our economy, support families, and accelerate the transition to a cleaner, more resilient future.” Jill Tipping, President & CEO of the BC Tech Association.
