15 Jun 2022 BC Tech Announces the 2022 Technology Impact Awards Finalists
VANCOUVER, B.C. June 16, 2022 – BC Tech is proud to announce the 48 finalists across 12 Technology Impact Award categories who achieved exceptional success in the past year. With ambition as the theme for this year’s awards, the award finalists showcase the incredible accomplishments of BC’s tech companies.
“What is thrilling about this year’s 48 finalists is that they represent exceptional ambition in so many ways, from climate leadership to diversity and inclusion to using technology to solve challenges in traditional industries,” shared Jill Tipping, CEO of BC Tech. “It is inspiring to see how technology is transforming BC’s economy and creating new opportunities in every community in BC.”
The announcement was hosted as the inaugural event at the Hudson Pacific Properties innovation pavilion, with a live audience joined by many more via Zoom to celebrate the announcements from around the Province. “Bentall Centre’s newly opened pavilion was designed to encourage our vibrant community to gather and collaborate, and we are thrilled that the pavilion’s first event is celebrating those who have made a significant impact on the tech industry in British Columbia. BC Tech is a valued partner, and we are proud to support the growth and scale of tech companies here in Vancouver,” commented Shawn Punton, Director of Operations at Hudson Pacific Properties.
One of the most celebrated announcements during the event was the new format for the Company of the Year – Startup category presented in partnership with Microsoft. 10 finalists were announced who will come together for a live ‘Dragon’s Den’ style event in September to narrow the field down to the final 3. One exceptional winner will be announced at the TIAs gala on 6 October and awarded a prize of $10,000 from BC Tech to fuel their growth.
Another key moment was the announcement of the finalists for the new 2022 award category presented in partnership with Vancity – GameChanger in Climate Leadership. “I’m honoured to celebrate the finalists for the Gamechanger Climate Leadership award,” shared Kirsten Sutton, Vancity’s Chief Technology & Information Officer. “Vancity believes that becoming net-zero means doing things differently, and their spirit of innovation is critical in addressing the climate crisis.”
Winners in each category will be announced at the TIAs gala to be held on October 6th, 2022 at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Tickets can be purchased online here.
