Our workplaces are more diverse than ever, but the BC tech ecosystem can and needs to do better. We need to ensure tech companies don’t check boxes as diversity success metrics and that we work together to foster a greater sense of inclusiveness regardless of gender, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity or religion.

Everyday, we read something in the media about diversity, inclusion, and belonging. It is clear to us that while Vancouver is not the #1 tech ecosystem, (ranked 15th according to the 2017 Global Startup Ecosystem Report), we have a real opportunity to be the #1 ecosystem when it comes to Inclusion & Belonging.

Clearly tech companies have a strong desire to provide diverse and inclusive workplaces, however, it can be challenging to understand how to start or what to do in order to build and foster a truly inclusive environment.

The good news is there are a number of organizations doing incredible work that exist solely to guide and support businesses and their workplaces through this journey.

The team at BC Tech have prepared a list of all known BC-based diversity organizations that we are aware of. The purpose is to highlight the amazing work these organizations do and create a go-to list of support available to tech companies in BC.

BC Tech has also taken the lead and brought together all of the Women In Technology groups (included in this list) to collaborate on a couple of projects and unify our collective efforts.
