Unplugged: Scaling Tech Companies in the Cloud Recap

Author: BC Tech Association

On November 20th, the BCTIA hosted a special breakfast edition of Unplugged in partnership with Microsoft to discuss the trends in Cloud, Big Data and Machine Learning. With a strong roster of cloud-based startups calling British Columbia ‘home,’ our province is set to capitalize on the continued growth of the Cloud.

The panel featured three Vancouver cloud-based companies: Jean Lozano, CTO, Media Valet, Narayan Sainaney, CTO, Mojio, and Greg Smith, CEO, Thinkific, with Mike Hilton, Director, Partner Business Evangelist from Microsoft, as the moderator. There were great discussions on the future of cloud, including how artificial intelligence will play a role in cloud and how machine learning will expand immensely.

The event kicked off with opening remarks from Honorable Amrik Virk, BC’s Minister of Technology Innovation and Citizen Services.

We also had the pleasure to hear Dr. Paul Terry, CEO, PHEMI, speak about how scalability of cloud helps to power Big Data, and PJ Zargarzadeh, Principal Solution Specialist for Azure, Microsoft Canada, discuss the emergence of machine learning utilizing cloud computing platforms.

Thank you to everyone for coming out and a big thank you to our partners at Microsoft. We hope to continue the discussion of the growth of Cloud in Vancouver and look forward to seeing you at our next event!
