Talent Meetup: Software Developer Night – Tech Stack Must-Have

Author: BC Tech Association
Talent Meetup

Yesterday we kicked off our TechTalentBC Fall programming with our very first Talent Meetup. In partnership with BC Tech Jobs, the Meetup is a new initiative to bring together tech job seekers and hiring companies to share career development tips, technology updates, promote job opportunities, create connections, and hopefully lead to a few hires!

The event focused on what tech stack companies are currently using and look for in candidates. Panel speakers included Kevin Lysyk, Director of Software Development at Avigilon, Shahed Khalili, Manager of Product Development at ACL, Rory Emerson, Director of R&D at ACL, Francis Lui, Senior Director of Engineering for SAP Jam, and Greg Kowalski, Technical Team Lead at Vision Critical. With such a strong and eclectic panel, mediated by Ryan St. Germaine, CEO of BC Tech Jobs, the discussion around current technologies was incredibly interesting and valuable to the audience. Diego Jonio, Software Developer, remarked that it was an “awesome meeting. I’ve received excellent advice and have met so many nice people.”

At every Meetup we highlight a promising startup who is currently growing their team; at yesterday’s event we were thrilled to welcome EDP Software, a Vancouver web-based company that specializes in workforce scheduling solutions, and one of BCTIA’s HyperGrowth companies. Sachin Agrawal, CEO at EDP, gave us great insights into EDP’s mission and culture, and mentioned that they are currently hiring for various technical roles. This was the first of many Talent Meetups, which will run on a monthly basis and focus on a variety of current technology and career advancement topics. To stay tuned on upcoming events, join our Meetup group here.

We are always looking for companies to act as speakers at upcoming meetups and startups to be highlighted. If you are interested in promoting your employment brand and job opportunities through these events, please email clouzada@bctia.org and ryan@bcjobs.ca.

See you at the next Talent Meetup!
