Talent Connection Day Recap

Author: BC Tech Association

On October 6th, 15 software developers and 15 hiring tech companies came together at the BCTIA Innovation Hub for great conversations (and hopefully many hiring opportunities) at Talent Connection Day, hosted by the BCTIA in partnership with BC Tech Jobs.

The developers, all experienced professionals carefully handpicked to attend the event, rotated through the room to meet with each attending company for approximately five minutes. The companies, from local startups like FusionPipe to giants like SAP, had a chance to ask candidate questions, review experiences, and make meaningful connections. The event ended with handshakes, smiles and great conversations over snacks and beverages in a casual and fun setting.

One of the developers who attended the event remarked that, “It was a brand new experience for me and I quite enjoyed it. I hope there will be more exciting events in the future such as this one.” It looks like connections were definitely productive: another developer mentioned that, “I’ve had some great feedback this morning which is a bonus, and hopefully it will result in something permanent. It was an exciting experience.”

Attending companies had nothing but great things to say. Raymond To, representing Arista Networks, said “Thank you for such an exclusive event. The 15 people interviewed are of high relevance and I’m impressed with BCTIA’s screen.” Jonine Rochacew from FusionPipe added that, “I have nothing but positive things to say about last night’s event. It was very well organized and ran smoothly. The candidates were very good to excellent!!! I look forward to the next event.” Not only did the companies get to meet 15 great intermediate to senior candidates, they also received another 15 great junior and part-time developer profiles for their consideration.

It was great to welcome a few of our companies to Talent Connection Day for the first time, such as Arista Networks, Dynamic Leap, FusionPipe, Middleware360, ResponseTek, Splunk, and Traction on Demand, as well as see a few returning faces from ACL, Absolute Software, Avigilon, BuildDirect, SAP, Simba Technologies, and Payfirma – who hired 3 developers from the last Talent Connection Day alone.

We were thrilled to see so many positive connections being made, and we are looking forward to welcoming more new and returning companies to the next Talent Connection Day!
