Hello Summer: Our Mid-Year Review

Author: BC Tech Association
Have a Great Summer!

Now that the 2015 Technology Impact Awards have passed and summer has officially come, we can finally take a deep breath and enjoy the rest of the season, right?! Hmm… let’s just say, there will always be hustle and bustle happenin’ in the tech world!

But seriously, how did the year pass by so quickly?! We just want to give a BIG thank you to our partners, community members, and everyone else who supported us during our transition to the BCTIA Innovation Hub. We felt like kindergarteners when we first moved into the new space, but now we have learned better processes and procedures to help us serve our community even greater! We’re excited to share our plans with you, but let’s take a look at our highlights from the beginning of this year.

Highlights from this year:

  • Moving into to our new home on Great Northern Way and welcoming 20 awesome companies to join us at The Hub!
  • Announcing the 2015 Technology Impact Award Winners at the TIAs with over 1,000 people in the room
  • Launching the HyperGrowth Program, BC’s only second-stage revenue accelerator, and starting to work closely with three selected companies
  • Supporting Tech’s Got Talent, a community fundraiser that challenged 20 technology companies to raise funds for local children’s charities
  • Bringing out a team to the PMC Science Fair Fun Run, and running alongside 1,200 runners in the largest timed 5K fun run in the province
  • Hosting 15 fantastic Grub in The Hub sessions that ranged topics from building internal strategic communications to creating ROI through social selling
  • Providing confidential expert advice through our 23 one2one business sessions
  • Announcing the 2015 Technology Impact Award Finalists at TechBrew on April 30, 2015
  • Hosting TalentFX in partnership with BC Tech Jobs, bringing together intermediate-to-senior web and software developers with Vancouver’s most prominent tech companies looking to hire
  • Becoming a VIP Host in Vancouver for Canadian Open Data Experience (CODE) 2015, a 48-hour hackathon that challenges teams to develop apps using Government of Canada open data

That was just a handful of the great events and opportunities that happened earlier this year! If you want to learn more, please read more on our blog and in our news section. We also have many awesome photos of our events from the year on our Flickr page.

Thank you again for being a part of the BCTIA community! Throughout the summer, we will continue to host more our Grub in The Hub sessions and one2one business sessions. For latest news and events, view our Events Calendar at bctia.org/events.

Have a great summer and we hope to see you soon!
