21 Jun 2018 Introducing the Bill Tam Scholarship
Bill Tam spent more than six years guiding BC Tech in its mission to build a strong future for the tech sector and for British Columbia. Through it all, Bill was a passionate advocate for making sure we were encouraging and training the next generation of talent.
So when it came time to mark Bill’s retirement, the BC Tech Board of Directors knew a gold watch didn’t seem to stack up when it came time to celebrate Bill’s years at the helm.
The board, with the support of many participants from the tech community, decided to thank Bill and recognize his huge contribution with a new annual scholarship: The Bill Tam Scholarship.
Launched at the 2018 Technology Impact Awards, the Bill Tam Scholarship will be awarded to one high school and one post-secondary student pursuing STEM-related qualifications in the province. The winners will exemplify the values so closely associated with BC Tech and Bill Tam personally: Be of Service, Pay it Forward. Succeed Together.
The 2018 scholarship winners are:
Giulia Mattia of the University of British Columbia – currently completing the Bachelor and Master of Management Dual Degree Program. She is an active committee member for UBC’s Focus on Women in Computing Society and is an advocate for diversity in STEM. She aspires to one day represent women in the tech sector across BC and around the world.
Kaylan Wang of Ecole Hugh McRoberts Secondary – an active member of Science World’s Future Science Leaders program. She aspires to build a career in the field of public health and disease prevention. She has been accepted into the Bachelor of Science Program at the University of British Columbia.
So far we have raised $10,500 towards the Bill Tam Scholarship Fund, and the donations keep coming in. To make your pledge and be part of building the next generation of BC Tech leaders please click below.
