Most Promising Pre-Commercial Technology

This award acknowledges a pre-commercial technology that is in the R&D stage of development and has the potential to commercialize within five years. The technology in development must represent a fundamental advancement, not a new feature or version.

Who Should Apply?

This award is open to companies that are:

  • At any stage of the company lifecycle; startup, growth-stage, established, etc.
  • Pre-commercial or already have other products in market
  • BC-based (head office and/or full-time presence in BC)

Evaluation Criteria

The application process will require that the following questions are answered. Please use the information below to help prepare your application prior to submission.

  1. Company Description - A summary of the company, similar to what would be used at the end of a press release. 100 words maximum.
  2. Company History - Describe the origin and founding of the company, including key dates. 300 words maximum.
  3. Leadership Team - Provide a brief background on your core team members, board, and advisors. 300 words maximum.
  4. Company Impact - Describe the impact your organization has made on your customers and employees, the community where you are located, and/or the BC economy in general. 500 words maximum.
  5. Advancing science (500 words maximum)
    • How does this concept contribute to advancing science?
    • How does it leverage existing or other emerging technology?
  6. Differentiation (500 words maximum)
    • What makes this technology unique and how does it differ from other similar products?
    • Describe the level of third party validation achieved to date.
  7. Potential to succeed/execute (500 words maximum)
    • How will the concept transition into a commercial product?
    • What other validation or execution factors are required as part of the remaining R&D cycle?
  8. Value proposition (500 words maximum)
    • Provide a concept/product pitch as it would be described to a group of business executives.
    • What are the estimated revenues to be generated from the product's commercialization?
